Diagnostics

The Clinic of the FSBSI ‘IEM’ conducts a wide range of studies of diagnostics and monitoring the effectiveness of treatment of diseases of the cardiological, vascular and neurological profile.

All the studies of the Clinic are carried out by highly qualified specialists with all the appropriate certificates. Most of our specialists are members of various Russian and international professional associations.

All the studies are carried out in close contact between our physicians of the Consultative and Diagnostic Department and the Laboratory of Clinical Diagnostics with the physicians of the Department of Cardiology, the Department of Neurology and the Department of X-ray Surgical Diagnostic and Treatment Methods in the X-ray operating room.

The following examinations are carried out in the Consultative and Diagnostic Department of the Clinic of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution ‘IEM’:

Cardiological examinations:

Echocardiography (EchoCG) or ultrasound of the heart, along with an ECG, is the basis of diagnosing heart disease. Only EchoCG provides unique information on the heart, which can’t be obtained using other research methods, including even invasive ones. The value of echocardiography is unconditional in hypertensive heart disease, myocardial infarction, infectious lesion, diseases of the thoracic aorta.

EchoCG in the Clinic is performed on the expert-level equipment on an ultrasound scanner VIVIDE 95, manufactured by GE with the latest software version. Conclusions are formed in the processing of the EHOTEKA program.

Difficult patients are discussed with Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Head of the Department of Functional Diagnostics of the North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov, a member of the board of the St. Petersburg Cardiological Society, President of the St. Petersburg Echocardiographic Club Vladimir Novikov, who conducts advisory receptions with the issuance of an expert opinion.

Exercise ECG tests: treadmill test and stress echocardiography. They are carried out to diagnose coronary heart disease. At the same time, stress echocardiography has a significant advantage over the treadmill test in identifying earlier criteria for myocardial ischemia, being at the same time a non-invasive technique. Examinations are performed on the expert equipment (ECG program SHILLER; ultrasound scanner VIVIDE95).

Holter ECG monitoring (CMECG) and bifunctional monitoring (CMECG + BP). This is a dynamic survey, which is widely used to detect rhythm and conduction disturbances in the work of the heart, painful and painless myocardial ischemia, to identify and control the treatment of arterial hypertension. The research is carried out using the ‘CARDIOTECHNIKA’ program of the ‘INKART’ company.

Ultrasound examinations:

The whole range of ultrasound examinations is performed in our Clinic, including examinations using a cavity probe (ultrasound of the thyroid gland, abdominal and kidney organs, small pelvis, mammary glands, soft tissues, abdominal aorta, renal arteries).

Duplex scanning of the vessels of the neck and head. This is a modern ultrasound method for diagnosing blood vessels: carotid, vertebral, subclavian, as well as the main arteries of the base of the brain and arteries of the vertebro-basilar basin. Atherosclerotic plaques, blood clots in the lumen of blood vessels, tortuosity and stratification of arteries are diagnosed with the help of ultrasound diagnostics. The study is performed on the expert-level equipment, ultrasound scanner VIVIDE 95, by a physician of the highest qualification category, Ph.D.

Neurological examinations:

Electroencephalography is a sensitive research method that reflects the slightest changes in the function of the cerebral cortex and deep brain structures. EEG in the Clinic is performed on the modern equipment, Mitsar program. This examination is conducted by a neurologist with professional retraining in functional diagnostics.

Electroneuromyography (ENMG) – stimulation and needle. Used to diagnose diseases of the peripheral nervous system. Performed by a neurologist with professional retraining in functional diagnostics.

Ophthalmic examinations:

Reception is conducted by an ophthalmologist of the highest qualification. The examination takes place in the scope of outpatient reception: visometry, ophthalmoscopy, computer perimetry, measurement of intraocular pressure (pneumo), Schirmer’s test, selection of glasses.

Clinical and diagnostic laboratory of the Clinic of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution ‘IEM’

Performs research on clinical laboratory diagnostics of heart and vascular diseases, neurological diseases, and also carries out a set of laboratory tests necessary for hospitalization.

The objectivity of the diagnosis and subsequent quality control of treatment in most cases depend on the results of laboratory diagnostics.

The clinical diagnostic laboratory is equipped with all modern diagnostic equipment. All the researches are carried out by highly qualified specialists.

An expanded range of laboratory tests is carried out with the involvement of the resources of the INVITRO laboratory in accordance with the list of the Price List of medical services provided by the Clinic of the FSBSI ‘IEM’.
